How Much Does a Website Cost in India? (2025 Honest Breakdown)

Why website pricing in India is so confusing

Ask five agencies for a quote and you will get five wildly different numbers. ₹20,000. ₹2,00,000. ₹8,00,000. All for "a website." The confusion comes from the fact that the word "website" can mean a static brochure, a dynamic web application, or an e-commerce platform with 10,000 SKUs - and no one asks which one you mean.

The five tiers of website pricing in India

**Tier 1: ₹15,000–₹40,000 - Freelancer on a template**

This is a WordPress or Wix site built on a purchased theme, with your content dropped in. It works for someone who needs a basic online presence fast. The limitations: generic design, slow load times, poor SEO foundation, and you own nothing if the freelancer disappears.

**Tier 2: ₹40,000–₹1,20,000 - Small agency or experienced freelancer**

Semi-custom design. Still likely WordPress. Slightly better SEO setup. A more reliable point of contact. This is where most small business websites live, and where you get the widest quality variance - because pricing tells you nothing about output quality.

**Tier 3: ₹1,20,000–₹3,50,000 - Mid-tier agency, custom design**

Custom-designed UI, proper information architecture, conversion-focused copywriting, performance optimisation. This is the tier where websites start actually working for your business rather than just existing.

**Tier 4: ₹3,50,000–₹10,00,000 - Serious agency, full-stack build**

Built in Next.js or a modern framework. 90+ PageSpeed scores. SEO infrastructure. Analytics setup. CMS for your team. This is what fast-growing businesses need when their website is a revenue driver, not a brochure.

**Tier 5: ₹10,00,000+ - Enterprise or complex applications**

Multi-role platforms, custom e-commerce systems, SaaS products, complex integrations. This is software development, not web design.

What actually determines cost

Four things drive cost: complexity of the design, complexity of the functionality, quality of the content production, and ongoing support commitment. Most clients underestimate the second two.

The real question to ask

Not "how much does a website cost" but "what is a website that converts worth to my business?" If a good website generates two extra clients a month, and each client is worth ₹50,000, the website pays for itself in the first month. Price is not the constraint. Return is.

Red flags in low-cost quotes

No discovery call. No questions about your business. A quote sent within 24 hours of first contact. These are signals that the agency plans to use a template and swap out your logo. The work that follows usually looks exactly like that.
